The Third Vote - Your political voice

Election & Procedure

Why the StuPa election?

To demonstrate the practicality of The Third Vote, an experiment will be conducted in cooperation with the AStA. The election of the authored student body (short: StuPa for Student Parliament) at the KIT is ideal for it because it works like the federal election. Thus, a candidate is elected with the first vote and a student party with the second. In addition, all parties answer political questions of the Stupa-O-Mat. These questions and answers can be used to identify and analyse the political orientation and attitudes of the parties and voters.

The election takes place from 18 to 22 June 2018.

What changes in the election?

The election itself does not change. Participating in the experiment does not change the rating of the vote. We collaborate with the Electoral Committee to ensure that the election is not hindered or influenced by any external circumstances.

How is it done?

All parties ask a certain number of questions in advance. The students of the KIT also have the opportunity to ask questions. These questions are answered by the parties and a questionnaire with 25 selected questions is developed. Upon registration, students are asked if they would like to participate in our experiment. Then they get an extra piece of paper with the questionnaire on it. In addition to that, the voter is asked once again what candidate and party he or she has voted for because not all voters will participate in the experiment and we need a close comparison for the analysis. All ballot papers land in the same urn to avoid extra effort. After the election, the results are analysed and evaluated using a specially written program.
